Formal Letters

1. To the Officer-in-Charge regarding useless gathering

To
The Officer-in-Charge
________ Police Station
(Your Town)

Sub: Request to disperse unnecessary gathering in front of school.

Sir,
I would like to draw your kind attention to the fact that a group of young fellows often gather idly in front of our school during opening and closing hours. They create disturbance, use slang language and sometimes tease students, especially girls. The smooth movement of students and guardians is hampered and the learning atmosphere is affected.

I therefore request you to take necessary action to disperse such gatherings and ensure safety and discipline around the school premises.

Yours faithfully,

Respected Sir/Madam,
I beg to state that I could not appear for the third Internal Formative Evaluation in First Language as I had been away to visit my ailing grandmother for a few days. Now I am ready to sit for the test and do not want to lag behind in studies.

I, therefore, request you kindly to allow me to appear for the evaluation on any date fixed by the subject-teacher concerned.

Yours obediently,

3. Letter to Secretary for establishing a library

To
The Secretary
________ Club
(Your Locality)

Sub: Proposal for opening a library.

Sir,
With due respect I wish to propose the establishment of a library in our locality. Students of our area often fail to get reference books, magazines and study materials. A library will greatly help them in academic growth and develop reading habits.

If established, it may be run by a committee, books may be issued against library cards and reading room facility may be arranged. It will benefit students, job-seekers and book-lovers equally.

Yours faithfully,

4. Request to use festival fund for scholarship (100 words)

To
The Secretary
________ Club

Sir,
I came to know that our club has received Rs.1 lakh for the autumnal festival. I request you to kindly use this amount for instituting a merit-cum-means annual scholarship for the children of drummers and decorator labourers who work hard for the festival but remain financially weak. Such an initiative will inspire education among the needy and bring honour to our club.

I hope you will consider this humanitarian proposal.

Yours sincerely,

5. FIR letter on fraud call (within 100 words)

To
The Inspector-in-Charge
________ Police Station

Sub: Request to lodge FIR for online fraud.

Sir,
I beg to inform you that a fraudster called my mother pretending to be a police officer and threatened her with false charges. Out of fear she transferred a large amount of money through online payment. Later we realised it was a scam. We request you to kindly register an FIR immediately, trace the caller and take necessary action to prevent such crimes.

Yours faithfully,

6. Letter to Editor on harmful chemicals in food

To
The Editor
_________ (Newspaper Name)

Sir,
I wish to express my deep concern over the increasing use of harmful chemicals to keep fishes, vegetables and fruits fresh. Calcium carbide, formalin and other toxic preservatives are being used in markets daily. These cause deadly diseases like cancer and organ failure and endanger public health.

Strict monitoring, regular market raids and awareness among consumers are extremely needed. I hope you publish my letter to draw attention of the authority and the public.

Yours faithfully,

7. Letter to Head about junk food habit (100 words)

To
The Head of the Institution
(Your School Name)

Sir,
I wish to draw your attention to the fact that some junior students avoid the cooked mid-day meal and buy junk food instead. They claim that they prefer the taste of fast food and find the school meal less attractive. This habit is harmful to their health and may lead to malnutrition.

I request you to take steps such as improving meal quality, counselling students and arranging awareness sessions on healthy food habits.

Yours obediently,

💌 Informal / Private Letters

1. To relative about deferred football dream (100 words)

My dear _________,
Hope you are well. You know I always wished to become a footballer. But being a girl, I hardly get a chance to practise. There is no separate girls’ team either at school or in our playground, and boys hardly allow us to join. Sometimes it pains me that my dream is delayed, but not lost. I have decided to practise regularly at home, join coaching when possible and prove that passion has no gender. Pray for me so that one day I may fulfil my dream.

Yours lovingly,

2. Letter to cousin in flood-affected village (100 words)

Dear ________,
I was very upset to hear that your village in South 24 Parganas is again flooded due to high tide and poor performance of the irrigation department. I can imagine how difficult life has become for you all. I feel you should write an editorial letter to leading newspapers describing your sufferings and exposing the negligence of the authorities. When people raise voice together, administration is forced to act. Please stay strong and keep others motivated. Better days will surely come.

Yours affectionately,

📄 Paragraph Writing

1. Corruption (100 words)

Corruption is a major obstacle to progress in our country. It is mainly born out of greed and the desire to gain undeserved benefits. It tempts the weak and helpless and increases the suffering of common people. Public services get delayed, justice becomes costly and development slows down. The administration must act strictly against corrupt officials. People too must protest, because silence encourages wrong-doers. Only collective awareness and mass movement can help us build a corruption-free society. Corruption is a curse and must be uprooted for the better future of our state and nation.

2. The Evening After Madhyamik Exam (100 words)

The evening after Madhyamik Examination brings a great relief. The long months of stress, pressure and anxiety finally come to an end. Students feel as if a long battle has been won. Breakout of Dengue in Locality

DENGUE SCARE IN AREA – PEOPLE ADMITTED IN LARGE NUMBERS
By Staff Reporter

A severe outbreak of dengue has created panic in ______ locality. A large number of infected patients have been admitted to different hospitals during the last few weeks. The administration is conducting awareness campaigns, distributing pamphlets and spraying larvicide in drains and stagnant water bodies. Mosquito nets and repellents are also being supplied. The situation demands urgent and continuous monitoring.

🔄 Process Writing

Preparing a Booklist

Specimen copies of books are first received from authorised publishers. Books without valid TB numbers are rejected, and only textbooks not published by WBBSE are shortlisted. These shortlisted books are then distributed among subject-teachers for their opinion. After receiving teachers’ recommendations, the Academic Council considers the suggestions. The final decision is taken in a council meeting presided over by the Head of the Institution. Once the selection gets official approval, the final booklist is published for students.

📚 Story Writing

1. (Based on given points – 100 words)

A Shattered Wish

Last month we were invited to a marriage ceremony in a remote village. I had never visited it but heard many stories from my grandmother who spent her childhood there. I was extremely eager to see the places she described. Father had promised to take us, but on the scheduled day he returned late from the factory. His owner did not allow early departure due to urgent work. My heart broke and the desire to explore grandmother’s village remained unfulfilled. Yet I hope one day my dream will come true.

2. Story with title & moral (100 words)

The Greed for Gold
Three friends once found a bag full of money and decided to divide it equally. Being hungry, one went to buy food, but planned to keep everything for himself. He mixed poison in the meal. Meanwhile, the other two plotted to kill him and take the entire money. When he returned, they killed him and happily ate the food. Soon the poison worked and they too died. The bag of money lay untouched beside three dead bodies.
