Devastating Deluge Ravages Nepal By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu, September 8, 2026 A devastating flood struck several parts of Nepal on August 26 following the collapse of a Himalayan glacier near the Nepal-Tibet border. The sudden deluge sent torrents of water, mud and debris through villages, destroying houses, roads, bridges and hydropower projects. More than 1,300 people have reportedly lost their lives, while thousands remain missing. Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to locate survivors and provide relief to affected families. Nepal’s army has also used drones to deliver food, medicines and other essential supplies to remote areas cut off by the disaster. India and other countries have extended assistance to Nepal. The catastrophe has highlighted the growing threat of climate-related disasters and the urgent need for stronger disaster preparedness.
